Made In the Shade - Umbrella Class



Dig out that cherished piece of fabric you've been saving for years and show it off in Umbrella form. 

Instructor Joan Dunton will guide you through the steps to make the Umbrella over the course of two days, come rain or shine! Students must be comfortable with both machine and hand sewing to complete the umbrella. 

Extra frames will be available for purchase after class.


Skill Level: intermediate
Skill Details: Attendees must be comfortable with Machine and Hand Sewing.
Materials Included: 1 Umbrella Frame, Pattern, and use of Water-Proofing Spray included in class fee.
Requirements: - Sewing Machine in good working order, with Straight Stitch & ZigZag compatibility - Power Cord & Foot Control - 80/12 Universal Machine Needles - 2.5 yards of non-directional fabric. Batiks work well since they do not have two different sides. If you are an advanced sewist who is up for a challenge to use directional fabric - get 3 yards. - Isacord 40wt Polyester thread to match your fabric. (No cotton Threads) - Scissors - Scotch Tape -E600 Glue (find at most big box retailers) - Small Rotary Mat and Rotary Cutter - Bohin Hand Needles - Thimble (optional) - 3" Piece of velcro (optional) - Straight Pins and/or wonder clips - Curved Safety Pins
